More than shoes, Converse is a story of legends, heroes and innovators tied together by the love of sport. It’s a script that spans nearly a hundred years – the ultimate highlight reel. When Marquis M Converse opened the doors of the Converse Rubber Shoe Company in 1908, he had no idea that he was really manufacturing an American icon. Converse were even the sponsor of the 1984 Olympic Games, with the Gold medal winning American basketball team all wearing Converse Allstars. Consumers demanded more variety from the shoe - particularly with respect to colors in order to match basketball teams - so coloured and patterned shoelaces became ever popular to complement the two colours, black and white, and still remain so today. Low-top or “Oxford”, High top, and later knee-high, versions were produced. More materials were offered for the construction, including leather, suede, vinyl, denim and hemp. Some versions of the Converse All Star were offered without laces, held up instead by elastic. These new versions of the shoe were also co-designed by Chuck Taylor, just before his death in 1969. Fans of punk rock have adopted the Converse All star as a fashion trend since the late 1970s and many popular punk rock bands, such as the Ramones, have supported the trend by wearing the sneakers.Converse
Throughout the 20th century, Converse delivered a consistent procession of standout sports performance footwear. People that buy Converse know that Converse Allstars are so much sought after that new styles of Allstars, when released (always in small quantities) sell out almost immediately.
Converse Allstars are a mainstay in American popular culture, over the years many elite athletes have lined up to compete wearing a Converse All star shoe. As the line between sports and fashion blurred, Hollywood’s love affair with the Converse Allstar also began, and you will see many Hollywood A listers wearing Converse Allstars.
The Converse Allstar is available in several core colours, seasonal colours, and a variety of print styles. All-Stars became popular again in the '90s culture. They have appeared in numerous films and videogames, as well as TV shows, it seems everyone wants to wear and buy Converse!
